In this course, you will gain an understanding of the importance of finance in healthcare and develop basic financial and accounting skills needed by health professionals across different sectors (delivery, payer, products). The course introduces students to concepts in both financial and managerial accounting that are essential for healthcare organization managers and develops relevant financial techniques including ratio analysis, cost-volume-profit analysis, discounted cash flow/NPV and forecasting.

Week 2: Ratio Analysis & Assessing Fiscal Health
Week 3: Managerial Accounting & Internal Performance Analysis
Week 4: Investment Analysis - Part 1
Week 5: Investment Analysis - Part 2 and Midterm Exam
Week 6: Pricing Theory & Analysis
Week 7: Linking Strategy and Finance for Decision-Making

Alumni completing this course will receive a Certificate of completion from the UC Berkeley School of Public Health.
